Patients at St. Margaret’s for short-term rehab have easy access to effective senior care therapy options. We offer three skilled therapy options onsite for optimal convenience. We believe that more than just physical health, emotional well-being is essential, too. We tailor every skilled therapy session to the patient’s unique needs.
Physical Therapy
The truth is that most people are physically limited after experiencing a stroke, fall, seizure, or another illness. When they come to us for rehab services, we provide certified therapists who assess each resident upon arrival.
After evaluating the patient, our therapists create exercise routines tailored to their progress and needs. Physical exercises entail leg and arm work, low-impact balancing exercises, and movements designed to increase blood circulation.
The therapist closely monitors the patient’s progress and keeps detailed records. This information serves as a clear starting point for caregivers and family members to use at home. We make sure our patients have the tools they need to keep getting better even after they leave our senior care therapy.
Occupational Therapy
Severe medical events often leave seniors unable to care for themselves post-hospital. We help our residents regain their dignity, adjust to a comfortable life, and be more independent through occupational therapy.
During each session, a therapist helps residents with tasks like eating, getting dressed, and interacting with others. The therapist adjusts their tasks to meet the individual needs and preferences of each patient.
This is especially crucial when a resident has experienced a decline in physical or mental abilities. By tailoring their approach, the therapist can provide more effective care and support to the resident. This personalized care helps improve the resident’s overall well-being and quality of life.
The occupational therapist’s job is to be each patient’s greatest confidence giver and educator. Family members can join occupational therapy sessions to understand their loved one’s new routines and support their progress.
Speech Therapy
Residents who have trouble speaking or swallowing due to a stroke or illness can receive speech therapy. Our certified speech therapists work on oral exercises to enhance each patient’s vocal and verbal patterns.
Some exercises are designed to strengthen or flex throat muscles. Our speech pathologists are onsite and ready to work with residents whenever necessary. Just like our other assisted living therapies, each session is tailored to the patient’s specific needs.
Returning Home
No arbitrary timeline dictates when short-term therapy residents at St. Margaret’s Family of Care move back home. Residents return home only when they, along with our specialists and their loved ones, feel this is a safe and positive step forward. We encourage loved ones to communicate and advocate for their elders, and we pledge to do that for them as well.
We care deeply for our residents at St. Margaret’s Family of Care, and we know you also care about yours. Let your loved ones become our family members so that together, we can bring them back to the life they love.
